The third season of the year that goes by two names: fall and autumn. It's a time when crops and fruits are gathered and leaves fall, in the northern hemisphere from September to November. It's a time for cooling temperatures and a freshness in the air, brilliant colours and fall fairs.

Autumn inspires me to paint and reflect on the transitions of the season. In fall we are thankful for our good fortune to be in Canada in a supportive community surrounded by friends and family.

One often wonders, 'What makes me happy?' And one will often tell you, 'If I can do the things I want to do, and do it when I like to ...'

That would describes my 'happiness'. I find happiness in painting what I like ... in the subject matter, and in the colors I feel at that particular moment, as carefree as I can be.

Once the cooler temperature sets in, I long for a brisk afternoon walk, while occasionally picking up some freshly fallen maple leaves that have bright yellows, oranges, reds and a hint of summer green. Afterwards, I often crave for a hot bowl of homemade soup.

Fall is my favorite season and I often work in autumn colours. These pieces grew out of ghost images left behind when I sanded away earlier pictures, hence the titles.

Autumn is a time of beginnings and a reminder of endings. It carries anticipation and excitement along with nostalgia and longing – truly bittersweet.

Monotypes are one-of-a-kind, uneditionable prints. While they are, in a sense, prints of paintings, they require and dictate a spontaneity and directness unique to the technique. My monotypes are not so much reproductions of nature as they are nature itself: the physical and chemical qualities of the media, the surface and the process mimic the physical and chemical qualities of the landscape. Surface tension, capillary action, viscosity, pressure, flow and time are all factors in my monotyping process. Planning is almost impossible and surprises are constant!

I am constantly amazed at the beauty in world around us. There is an unmistakeable glow to everything in the fall. Autumn is a bitter sweet time in that there is splendor that will soon fade; yet a promise of renewal in the spring.

The opportunity to paint en plein air combines my passion for nature with art and documents for me the experience of being immersed in the landscape.

Autumn is a wonderful season to paint and I love this transitional time. The sun's heat is tempered with the dampness of the earth, the brilliant Fall colours are fading and the landscape relaxes into the next season.

I work with watercolour because I love its fluidity and transparency. It allows me to explore and capture moods that are lively and imaginary. My subject matter is determined from a mix of memory, photos and dreams that flash on the inward eye. I frequently add ink for enhancement and sparkle. I rely on instinct to develop a picture and prefer a slightly unfinished or understated quality that lets the viewer become engaged and finish the story.

Painting is my joy, which I want to share with others. My inspiration comes from the beauty of nature and everyday life. The subjects of my work are landscapes, still life and human figures. I love to paint semi-realistic landscapes and flowers from my memory or imagination.

I enjoy working with oils "alla prima" using brushes and palette knifes, which allows me to work quickly and show energy, emotions and movements.

I strive to create works full of light, warmth and emotion to give the viewers uplifting feelings of hope, happiness and joy of life.
