  • Sunset

Sunset

Acrylic, 30" X 40", $600

Arctic sunsets inspired me to paint this. The contrast between the warmth of the setting sun and the cold of the icy water was special. The climate imposes challenges to the residents who deserve great respect for surviving the harsh conditions.

  • Oasis

  • Humming Bird

Humming Bird

Acrylic on canvas, 11" x 14", $135

Hummingbirds are a sure sign that spring has come. With their quick movements and vibrant hues, they capture the curiosity of anyone who is lucky enough to see them.

Statement: These pieces were created last spring, using recycled panels that had had earlier work sanded off. Traces of the previous image remained and formed part of the new work – a sort of crop rotation in the studio.

  • Thaw

Thaw

Oil on birch panel, 8" X 10", $275

Sketch painted en plein air in late February when the snow had melted and the winter wheat provided the hope of green in the sodden fields.

  • Poplar

Poplar

Oil on birch panel, 8" X 10", $275

A plein air sketch painted on a hike in early May in the Huntsville woods. Too soon for new growth but the last year's leaves flashed gold as they caught the sun and the breeze in the greyed bush.

  • March Field

March Field

Oil on birch panel, 8" X 10", $275

The edge of a field painted en plein air in early March after the snow had melted. The sodden fields had not yet been turned and were just beginning to green up under the old growth.

Statement: Sometimes as the years go by it's hard to see change and everything feels the same, trapped in a routine. Even though you can see the seasons change and new life emerge, it's as if you have been going in circles. Finding a way to break your patten of behaviour can awaken new growth within.

Crocuses Emerged on Mountain Pastures

I love crocuses which emerged one cold early spring day and spread across vast areas of the mountains pastures. My favourite time to admire them is when the sun is low and they are catching warm sun beams. They look like tiny lanterns ... and all pastures are glowing ...
