Clara Laratta Biography
Clara Laratta is an interdisciplinary artist born and based in Hamilton, Ontario. In her work she utilizes integrative methodologies to research aspects of identity. Her latest body of work uses an autoethnographic approach to examine elements of wholeness. This work consists of sculpture, video, drawing and photography. It moves between and merges, modalities, connections, personal and collective healing and culminates in an informal archive of lived experience. This research was conducted at the University of Waterloo where she completed her MFA and Graduate Certificate in University Teaching. Laratta received her Honours BFA with distinction from McMaster University.
Recent solo exhibitions include In Search of Wholeness, Waterloo, Relational Affects, Kitchener, Unleashed, Hamilton, Liminality, Kitchener, Personal Effects, Dundas. Recent group exhibitions include Disembody, Waterloo, Breath. Heart. Spirit. North Bay and Brantford, Nord Art, Germany, and Dying., Toronto. She participated in the Biophony Residency in Chelsea, Quebec, the Awakening Residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point, Toronto, ON and the DVSA Advanced Studio Residency and is the recipient of the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Award, the President’s Graduate Scholarship, University of Waterloo, The Keith and Win Shantz International Research Scholarship, The Canada Council for the Arts Explore and Create Grant, the Ontario Arts Council Exhibition Assistance, the Juror’s Choice Award, Fieldcote Museum, Ancaster, ON, People's Choice Award, McMaster Museum of Art, Hamilton, ON, The
Lorna and David Somers Community Contribution Award for the Arts, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, a Bank of Montreal First Art! Nominee, McMaster University School of The Arts, Hamilton, ON. and was invited to be a member of the Ontario Society of Artists.
