Patty Lynes Biography

My landscapes and figures convey an impression of place by emphasizing the physical beauty of form, colour, and light. Paintings are windows that open to life and memory. My paintings strive to encompass in gesture the natural world especially through the changing light of day. Resilience in nature is the theme that inspires her works.

‘Stormy Sky’ is a view from York Boulevard over Cootes Paradise. Enduring habitat degradation, invasive species, urban expansion and ground water contamination, the ‘Paradise’ of Hamilton still provides a breathtaking view and sought out refuge.

‘Grounded,’ is a view through the cedars at the edge of the Niagara Escarpment at Mount Nemo. These trees endure despite human trampling, the elements, climate change, and a rocky environment. There is a spirit of place within these woods at low light.
