Lenny Jones Biography

I am a mixed media fusion eco artist who works in Canada. I came out as a self-taught artist in my 70s (in the spring of 2024) and had an excellent reception, selling a backlog of 24 pieces of art during my first six months, culminating in a year-end show where I sold my largest and most ambitious pieces. My work is mixed media – handmade, found and composite papers, acrylics, pencil crayon, ephemera – usually on wood panel canvases – with physical and emotional perspectives. It is ‘fusion’ art not only for the mix of media types, but also because I spent much of my life working around the globe in international aid which has inspired me on so many levels – the colours, images and artforms; textures of handmade papers, fabrics and woven rugs; and the feelings that I shared with women from across the globe including the tribal interior of Mali , salt making deserts of Gujarat, India, the islands of Indonesia, the Bedouin in Syria….and much more. That is, not only the exposure to global art and colours fused within me but also the root feelings, essence and compassion that we shared. Interestingly, though, much of my subject matter is local - my interpretation of home, neighbourhoods and the natural world – but imbued with my life experience. It boils up in me and bursts forth. The creation itself is quite intensive taking a month to complete a single large piece. I also create small and medium size pieces.
