Carol Priamo Biography

Drawing from my long-time photographic practice and inspired by architecture and the urban environment, my mixed media pieces are an integration of disparate elements using both hands-on and digital tools. Combining my altered photographic images, paper collage and found materials, I create surreal, multi-layered, tapestry-like compositions of vibrant colour, pattern and texture. This alchemical process—rooted in exploration, experimentation, and discovery— gives rise to a reimagined world of complexity and unexpected harmony, where shifts in reality evoke mystery and spark curiosity. My award-winning work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across Canada and the U.S., and featured in venues such as Art in the Workplace (Hamilton) and the Carnegie Gallery (Dundas). I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts degrees from the University of Toronto, and have furthered my art studies at OCAD University, the Dundas Valley School of Art and in workshops by renowned collage artist Jonathan Talbot. My creative path has been shaped by a diverse professional background—heritage consultant, art instructor, photographer, graphic designer, and author of books on Canadian architectural heritage. Each of these roles has deepened my connection to place and history, enriching my perspective and informing my artistic practice.
